BC Restaurant Talks discussion on Hiring, Recruiting & Labour Shortage accesses real solutions.

VANCOUVER, BC – Monday’s BC Restaurant Talks discussion took on the challenge of Hiring, Recruiting & BC’s Labour Shortage. Industry insiders gathered to hear an up to date assessment of the true shortage by go2HR’s Debbie Yule followed by strategies for recruiting by InspiredHR’s Debby Carreau, retention by BCRFA’s HR advisor Gillian MacGregor and available government programs from BC’s Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training’s Shannon Renault. The presentations will be available to members on BCRFA’s website later this week.

“With increasing shortages in key positions including chefs and cooks, we know operators urgently need access to real solutions,” said BCRFA president and CEO Ian Tostenson. Through the session, we identified places to start:

– Canada Job Grant Program offers funding up to $15,000 to train unemployed candidates, or shared funding for training existing staff ($5,000 for employer, $10,000 from CJGP). For more details:  https://www.workbc.ca/Employer-Resources/Canada-BC-Job-Grant.aspx

– National Job Fairs: Businesses looking to target candidates across the country can join go2HR on

strategic missions to job fairs across the country. www.go2hr.ca

– Call for help: Gillian MacGregor and Debby Carreau offer access to their invaluable HR expertise

as a BCRFA member benefit.

BC Restaurant Talks offers a series of power sessions that tackle difficult issues. The next sessions will be held in Vancouver in August and in Kelowna on Monday September 19th.
