Patio Applications Update – Vancouver Bylaw Amendments
Following recent Vancouver bylaw changes, licensees have several options regarding patios:
New Patios: Apply if your establishment does not currently have a patio. Eligible license types include Food Primary, Liquor Primary, and Manufacturers with a special event or lounge endorsement.
Changes to Existing Patios: Apply to expand your patio area or increase its capacity within the current service area.
How to Apply:
Detailed instructions are available on the LCRB website:
Liquor & Food Primary Licences: Click “Add a Patio or make a structural change”
Manufacturers: Click “Change a Manufacturer licence”
Key Application Requirements:
Floor plan showing the change with a current occupant load stamp (within 12 months) from LG/FN authorities or a registered architect/engineer.
Clear boundaries for the outdoor service area.
Proof of valid interest for the patio space (ex: lease, Certificate of Title, or confirmation from the owner/municipality).
Tips:
Apply early and submit a complete application. Incomplete submissions (missing occupant load) will be removed from the processing queue.
Applications are generally processed in order received, but new patio applications may be prioritized if volumes are high.

WorkSafeBC Gratuity Policy — Recent Update
We continue to receive significant negative feedback from members regarding the approach taken by WorkSafeBC inspectors and auditors. There remains an ongoing impasse around our request, on behalf of hospitality and related service providers, where gratuities are accepted, to pause the requirement for gratuities to be added to payroll. In addition, we have asked WorkSafeBC to work collaboratively with industry to simplify regulatory requirements. To date, both requests have largely gone unaddressed.
We will announce further industry action in early January.

BCRFA Helps Delay Ban of Natural Gas
The Coquitlam City Council was scheduled to vote last night on a proposed ban of natural gas in new residential buildings. The BCRFA, in collaboration with the BC Coalition for Affordable Dependable Energy, submitted a letter to Council yesterday afternoon requesting a delay in both the vote and any potential implementation. We are pleased to share that the decision has now been postponed to the new year, allowing more time for industry input and consideration.
